Today I had a great opportunity and learning experience. Sneaker aficionado, Sean "PaperChasr" Williams of Obsessive Sneaker Disorder (OSD Live), invited me and many others to the Adidas Superstar Experience space down at 138 Wooster Street for his Superstar Sneaker Design Session. There he educated the attendees on the origins of the iconic Adidas Superstar sneaker as well as the evolution of the design and brand identity. There were people there of all ages, professional backgrounds, and interests, but the experience was equal amongst all in attendance.
The experience space has an amazing minimalistic, yet well branded design aesthetic. From a giant mold of the "shell-toe" of the Superstar, to a rainbow neon display featuring the mono-chromatic Pharrell Superstar line soon to be released this Spring.
At the end of the seminar, we all got a chance to take a blank outline of the Adidas Original Superstar and create our own original colorway. After we were all done, we hand them in to one of the Adidas employees to be reviewed and selected. The winner will get an opportunity to have theirs produced! I could not pass up the opportunity. We were given some colored pencils, but thankfully I also brought with me a sharpy (for some reason I thought I may need it on this trip). This is what I came up with and the final product was well received by a large number of people in attendance including seasoned "sneakerhead" veterans as well as the younger generation. Not being cut from that cloth myself, it felt good to know that my vision was accepted.
